from the mouths of babes

A little girl asked” Teacher what is your Korean name? “well I don’t speak Hangeul (Korean).she said” your name should be Kim Jin jung.” and then another kid said” it should be Kim dae young. “What are you guys telling me I think you are trickin me. “No teacher we no trick!” wait I can write my name in Korean its.

And much to their surprise I wrote in Korean characters ooohh wow Tloy (remember there is no r sound so the closest we can come with is the Tl blend) they were quite impressed, but that is your English name spelled in Korean. No I know what my name should be sumyonghguy the classed said “what?” so I repeat sumyonghguy puzzled looks come across their faces wait let me write it in English some….young….guy. Then the first little girl looks up quite puzzled “but Troy teacher your not young?” God i hate kids!

The dog father

This could be simply the most beautiful thing I have seen in a long time .the god father of all junk food please click on the picture if you can’t see it my friend nick holding a corn dog wrapped in French fries, yes French fries and crinkle cut fries at that. We were drink beer out in front of my apt when my neighbor rolls in from Soule and hand us two of them I swear I started crying on the spot. And please remember that while alcohol can make you a little emotional remember it’s a corndog wrapped in French fries for the love of god! And never post drunk.

I am like Batman olny drunker

As I have said I have been taking it easy on the account of my bacterial bronchitis
So that means I go home early than everyone which is about 2 in the morning instead of the usual 5 or six in the morning. I went to the bat man bar on Saturday, yes I said the batman bar this will cause much envy among my nerdy friends, I was walking around downtown Suji and like a light from heaven I saw it. The bat signal and like any comic collecting video game playing computer nerd I had to inspect one cause I like batman and two maybe he is busy and I could get some action luckily it wasa bar so I just got more drunk. But at least I got home before the sun came up!

to sick to post but i 'll drink to that!

Well I have been pretty sick for about three weeks
And I haven’t posted in that time but I am on the mend so here we go, we went rafting 2 weeks ago, really small rapids but it was fun to splash around in the water (which probably add to my bronchitis) then we had the monthly meeting where they pat all the teachers on the back and have a pep rally. then it was time to eat and drink bbq pork and beer and sujo, are you familiar with sujo will eventually kill everyone in Korea it is the local booze while it is only about 50 proof it has no flavor what so ever and goes down way to easy to compound the problem it only cost about 90 cents a bottle yes I said 90 it is cheaper than an ice cream bar! We had a blast

Words to live by

I don't know if this a true story but it sure rings true.

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fullyDressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably Coifed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, movedTo a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the moveNecessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursingHome, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visualDescription of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that hadBeen hung on his window."I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-oldHaving just been presented with a new puppy."Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait.""That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied."Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I likeMy room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged...It’s how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it."It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have aChoice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have With the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on theNew day and all the happy memories I've stored away. Just for this Time in my life.Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in theBank account of memories! Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank.I am still depositing." Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

This little guy is trying to pull a fast one on teacher Troy you get an A for silly and D for family description, all we want is ten sentences bro.

here is a shot from out side my work cool pretty .

Check out the view

This was taken from the roof of my building. The picture doesn’t real do it justice it was a little hazy so the pic didn’t come out that great. The pollution is pretty bad here there just so many people here in such a small space every one lives in this high rise apt that stretch out as far as the eye can see. On a clear night the view is incredible. I live in a suburb of soel called suji and I think it is just about the best place for me I have every thing I need and I don’t have all the drama of the big city.

Well I made it to Korea!

It took with layovers about 17 hours. It was a little rough the first week but I hit the ground running. They were in dire straights and the staff seemed truly grateful to see me apparently they lost 2 instructors and one teacher had some health problems, so when I got here they were all over worked and a little stressed. So with one day of observation I am now a teacher I was a little worried about my job performance but with a little thought it is easy now I am trying not to over work these little kids they go to school like 12 hours a day so when they get restless after 8 o’clock I understand. Apparently Korean girls like me, at least the eight year old ones do. Yesterday I was informed by one of my students that teacher is cute. Sweet she gets an A.

SHAWNN MATTHEWS

I got some sad news I have been researching Korea for some time ,one of my major inspirations for this trip was a man named SHAWNN MATTHEWS although he moved on to china from Korea his Korea life bog was funny extremely insightful and informative here is the link http://korealife.blogspot.com/ he had started a new blog china life which last week he had suddenly stopped ,this worried me and I shot him and email expressing my admiration and concern I have exchanged a few emails with him so I thought this would be a good Farwell. So after not hearing from him I figured he was off living life and having a great time. Yesterday I got some shocking news Shawn had passed on. I didn’t know him that well but I felt that I knew him for years , I followed his life in his blog for the last six years from the trails of teaching assistants through girlfriends and x-girlfriends his move to china his love of his of his job the kids and exploring. Shawn I didn’t know you, but we were brothers and you will be missed

Count down to Korea

After waiting for what seems like forever to get my computer fixed (dont buy computers from best buy they dont honor their warranties) it took me a surprisingly short time to get a job I put 7 application to schools 2 applications to recruiters and I have had more replies than I could handle which made it easy to pick and choose . It is may 16 today and in less than one month I will be in Korea which will start off the first leg of my tour in Asia and will last at least 5 years. I hope Korea to for at least 3 year then move to Japan and try Japan out for a couple of years then off to china for a year then go to eastern Europe for a couple of years and down to South America then back to the states. Sound great but we will see I will probably run home after 1 year.
